No one warns about the joy of eating crispy moong dal kachaudis for the first time.
And the pain afterwards! 🤓
I have adored home-made urad dal kachaudis for a long time. I have devoured them like crazy when they are freshly prepared and devoured them like crazy again when they are to be eaten with paneer matar curry in a meal. Within a span of half an hour.
Till 2025, till the time I had visited Jaisalmer, I had no idea that moong dal kachaudis existed. My life’s extreme devouring sessions began and ended with urad dal kachaudis.
Till the fateful morning of November 2025 when I discovered moong dal kachaudis.
The breakfast at Chowki Dhaani was awful and I was searching for protein loaded items. I did not trust the other items much and decided to take 3 crispy moong dal kachaudis, under the assumption that these are local delicacies so the cooks know how to prepare them.

Well, the cooks did know how to prepare them.
They prepared the kachaudi too well!
And me, being a glutton and a protein paglu hungrily munched on them. The thick slightly oily covering of the Kachaudi was so “khasta” that the flakes were flying here and there. And the slightly mushy yet crunchy moong dal filling took me to the ninth level of heaven!
The only issue was that two kachaudis were enough. But my dear mom told me to be a good girl and slowly finish the third one. By the end of the third kachaudi, I was so full that the ninth level of heaven started feeling like ninth level of hell.
Because it is a full meal in itself!
I had a weird stomach ache throughout the day while visiting the scintillating Jaisalmer Fort. 🤓
